Normally I post on Mondays but I was doing a severance workshop in Canmore and just ran out of time to get everything done. I still managed to get three posts up this week
- Should allowance be tied to chores? I’ve been working on an allowance program for my kids and sharing my thoughts through the blog. I’m really interested in the comments and experiences of others.
- Allowance should teach children about money. In thinking about an allowance program, I think it is important that the allowance system incorporates my values and beliefs on money so I share some of these values in this post
- Why is there so little financial education in the workplace? This is a new post on my other blog GroupBenefitsOnline.ca
- Are Canadians ignorant about taxes? H&R Block recently released the findings of a survey that suggests Canadians do not know about taxes. Why is tax knowledge so poor?

Thanks for the mentions Jim, we really appreciate it.
Have a great weekend!
Jim thx for the mention(s) and all your “mentorship”.
Thanks for the mention Jim. Useful set of articles for “tax pain” time.
Thanks for the mention, Jim. On linking allowance to chores, I’m mostly against it. Every member of a household should be expected to contribute a reasonable amount of work to keeping things running. I don’t like the idea of paying kids for doing the minimum that they should be doing. Some money for larger, out of the ordinary tasks may be reasonable.
Thanks for your thoughts. I don’t disagree with you but do you pay an allowance even if it is not ties to anything? If so, what is the allowance for . . . just because? Or do you only tie the allowance to the ‘extra’ work? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for mentioning my recent tax posts Jim!
